What do you all know about the Mazda CX-5 transmission control module? I think ours just shit itself.
2013 CX-5 Sport - 2.0 Auto. 36,000 miles. What would make it surge to 4,000 RPM and refuse to shift, then bog down and not go over 5 MPH while lighting up the AT, check engine, and traction control lights? My wife just barely made it off the highway!
After three restarts, it's driving normally but the check engine light is still on. Googling it's symptoms makes me think transmission control module as that seems to be common-ish.

Whoa, do I need to rethink picking up at CX-5 after dieselgate gets sorted?

It is the transmission control module. It needs an update. Common problem. Google solves all.

That makes me feel better, I am sad enough to likely be swapping my manual wagon for an auto crossover. Between your posts and the offset passenger crash tests I was rethinking my list.
Can I ask what trim do you have?

Yeah I was just looking that up. Do you still have a warranty on it?

We have a 2013 Sport. It’s a wonderful vehicle. We have never had one single problem in 4 years and 36,000 miles. Until now.
For what it's worth, the car drives normally now. It just has a check engine light on.

Yeah. We got a 100,000 mile warranty with it.

I don’t think this is a flawed vehicle or is unreliable because it had one hiccup in 4 years.

Our first CX-5 had this issue (2013 IIRC), but the module and eventually whole transmission were replaced under warranty. We had our car for 1.5yrs, 40k miles and this was the only issue we had. FWIW, we now own another CX-5 (2016 AWD).

No, we are on our second CX-5 and we love it. We only sold the first one to get a prius for better gas mileage since we drive so much. Two cars later, we’re back to the CX-5. Both of ours have been GTs with the first being FWD and this one AWD.

Good to know, I’m finalizing my budget (pending VW handing me piles of cash) and starting to look at trims for the vehicles on my shortlist so I know what to go test drive.

My wife really wants one now that we have a kid and all the research I've done have said they are solid rigs. Thanks for the input!

Ours is a great little ride. Consistent 30 MPG, plenty of space, and (besides this hiccup) very reliable.
